Feb 3: “There was a loud explosion. My wife and I saw our BMW car on fire and the floor downstairs burning,” related Johor PAS deputy commissioner Dzulkefly Ahmad about the incident in the wee hours at his home in Taman Universiti, Skudai.
SHOCKER ... What is left of Dzulkefly's BMW
In the incident which took place at around 3.40 am, Dzulkefly said another explosion following the first prompted him to ask his family members to come out of the house through the back door.
“I immediately called the fire department,” he said.
The fire destroyed the ground floor of his house and completely destroyed his BMW car, while his other car, a Toyota Camry parked next to it was partially burnt.
“Thank God. Nobody got hurt,” he said.
Initial investigation by the police found what was believed to be a petrol tank outside Dzulkefly’s house.
When contacted, PAS central committee member Mazlan Aliman, who is also Johor PAS deputy commissioner, said the incident appeared to target Dzulkefly's life.
“This is no small sabotage. Luckily, Dzulkefly and his family managed to escape,” said Mazlan, who said Dzulkefly (left) had been actively exposing scandals in Johor recently.
“May be there are parties uncomfortable with what he is doing,” Mazlan added.
“We are confident with the police’s experience, and we hope they will conduct a thorough investigation."
In an immediate response, PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man condemned the attacks on Dzulkefly and urged the police to take immediate action.
“PAS urges members to remain calm and let the authorities deal with it,” he wrote on Facebook.
